ABOUT THE ARTIST
After growing up in New York City, I have lived since 1967 in Chapel Hill. I taught American history at the University of North Carolina until retiring in 2007. In my academic career I won six teaching awards and wrote books on topics ranging from the history of gender roles to The Joy of Teaching.
Much as I love teaching and history, I have also felt the need to venture into aesthetic areas. I published a novel, Home and Away, and am working on another. Meanwhile, I have practiced artistic photography, first in black and white, now in color.
I am working on two series of photographs: double exposures in the camera; and straight shots of peeling posters.
